The Door (2013)
Director: Ava DuVernay
Writer: Ava DuVernay
Cinematographer: Bradford Young
Middle of Nowhere director Ava DuVernay directs, “The Door”. A star studded short film featuring pieces from fashion label, Miu Miu.
The short film, plays out like a dramatic music video, with no dialogue featuring music by black female artists, most notably Goapele.
The short stars Gabrielle Union who plays a woman trying to recover from a broken marriage. It also stars Alfre Woodard, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Adepero Oduye and Goapele as her friends coming to the rescue with dinner, dancing, concert tickets and support. It displays the powerful bond women share with one another.
DuVernay is the first woman of color to win the coveted Best Director Prize at 2012’s Sundance Festival, and was contacted by the fashion line Miu Miu to direct the film for their “Women’s Tale series.
The cinematography is on point by the way.
